Mrs. Teresa Barnes
Teresa Barnes has a Bachelor of Economics and a Masters of Asian Studies. She joined the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 1992 and has worked in trade policy, trade finance and on bilateral relations with PNG, Japan and Canada, and has been posted to Nairobi, Kenya. She has also worked for the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance in Stockholm where she published a handbook on reconciliation on post-conflict states. Ms Barnes is currently living in Accra, where her husband is Australia’s High Commissioner to Ghana. In Accra, she has worked voluntarily for several NGOs. In 2019, Ms Barnes was instrumental in the formation of the Accra Youth Sinfonietta and was event lead for the Sinfonietta’s Christmas Concert and the Kempinski Hotel’s Christmas Tree Lighting concert. Ms Barnes was administrative and business development director for the 2019 Sankusem pilot project. She believes that all children and adults should have the opportunity to participate in music programs because music can bring great joy, music can assist with brain development and ameliorate brain disfunction, and because music is a fun way to learn discipline and cooperation.
